The primary challenge involved correcting significant topographical irregularities and outdated drainage systems to create a perfectly flush, precision-engineered outdoor living space that aligns seamlessly with the property’s modern bi-fold threshold.

Technical Analysis & Execution

  • Topographical Correction: The project required a comprehensive "level and rebuild" strategy. This involved the excavation of the original failing substrate and the implementation of a new, laser-leveled sub-base to ensure a uniform gradient across the entire footprint.
  • Precision Drainage Integration: To mitigate water ingress and surface pooling, a discreet linear drainage system (Aco drain) was integrated directly against the building's facade. The terrace was engineered with a subtle 1:60 fall, directing runoff away from the primary structure toward the peripheral soft landscaping.
  • Material Selection & Aesthetics: We utilized premium-grade, hand-cut sandstone flags. The stone was laid in a random bond pattern to emphasize natural tonal variations, ranging from deep ochre to cool grey. The joints were finished with a high-performance, weather-resistant polymeric resin for longevity and weed suppression.
  • Structural Retention: The perimeter features a bespoke timber sleeper retaining wall, designed to manage the elevation change between the new terrace and the neighboring property line, providing both structural stability and a clean visual border.

The completed works have transformed a previously uneven and underutilized area into a high-performance transition zone. By successfully reconciling the internal floor heights with the external paving, the project has significantly enhanced the property's flow, providing a durable, low-maintenance platform for high-end outdoor entertaining.
